This morning in our Monday morning gathering, we sang our Jack O’Lantern song. After that Gundula read to us the ‘Calendar of the Soul’ verse. Then everybody shared their weekends. Gundula and Jeff talked about last week’s weather and then John spoke about the stars.
On Monday and Tuesday afternoon our parents came to decorate Cascadia House and to carve pumpkins.
On Wednesday evening our family and friends came to our yearly Halloween party. This year’s theme was ‘The Enchanted Forest’. To enter our forest, everybody came through our well lit tunnel and then was welcomed by our bunny rabbit (Jeff). After that some people placed candle boats in a stream. The stream bed was made out of metal flashing. For some this was a game, for others a way to say good bye to departed loved ones. Then many of our guests played a guessing game with Jana and Fanny in the front room. They had to put their hand in four boxes and then guess what they were touching: like cotton, clay or pine cones. The front room was beautifully decorated with coloured lights hanging from the ceiling and pictures of different forest animals on the windows. Also some beautiful music was played on the xylophone and on the psalter. Elliot, our penguin organized a fishing game to catch star fish or regular fishes. Down stairs the basket workshop had leaves all over the floor and bear and wolf foot steps leading into a quiet Gnome garden where children could come and hear stories and nursery rhymes such as Old King Cole, Humpty Dumpty, Mary had a Little Lamb,To Market, to Market, Little Miss Muffet and the Cow Jumped over the Moon. Outside on the mosaic, Mary who was dressed as a bear gave out popcorn in the bear cave. We would like to thank you for coming to this year’s Halloween party.
In our Thursday morning college, we celebrated All Soul’s day. We sang our November song, ‘Now we sing November’ and then Patricia read to us a poem called ‘Change’. After that most of the companions placed a candle in a bowl of water in memory of those who have passed away. Then Patricia read to us another poem and then we sang ‘Dona Nobis Pacem.’
After a short break we did singing with Ashling and we sang Happy Birthday to Hanieh.

It takes a village.....to carve enough jack o'lanterns for Cascadia's Halloween!
